For the love of all things holy make better picture control publis

Ok!! I have been spending all night working in publisher trying to make
overlaping pictures, but it is impossible!! What publisher needs is picture
editing software built into the program. This way when you import a picture
you can edit it some way! What would be really nice if there was a Basic
view of the progam and an advanced version that would give us MORE control
over... everything! Ok... that is my rant thankyou for reading

=====================================
No...it's not impossible. Actually it's quite simple.

Go to...Insert / Picture / From File...browse and
select the Picture you want. Import as many as
you need for the project.

Left click/drag the Pictures into position (over-
lapping as much or as little as you require). BTW,
a selected Picture can be *nudged* into posiion
with your arrow keys.

Now all you have to do is right click each picture
and use the options at "Order" to adjust which
one is on top...etc.

I beg to differ. Anytime you start adding functions like that, something
else suffers. Use photo editing software to do photo editing work - and then
import the final result into your document.

What i mean, is that if you have a person with a white background... and I
want just that person to be overlapping the title... so how do i get rid of
that white background so it is just the person... A kind of a overlapping
look

B

Brett

So what would be the solution for my problem... import the title, and the
picture into photoshop and do the editing there?

Yes. I never edit my graphics in Publisher. Everything is done in either
Photoshop Elements or Microsoft's Digital Image Suite and then imported.

You could try the transparency tool on the picture toolbar. It may degrade the
photo somewhat but it is a workaround.

====================================
That's a little different...huh?

If...in fact...the background is actually
white...or any solid color...left click the
"Set Transparent Color" button on your
Picture Toolbar and then left click the
background.

Otherwise...open your image in an
advanced image editor...and create a
cutout (think...paperdoll). Save it in the
..png, .gif or .tif format and reimport it
into Publisher.

If you don't have an advanced image
editor...try the trial version of MS Digital

IrfanView is an excellent freebie but doesn't
have an option for making cutouts which is
what I think the OP is asking for.

I didn't know such a thing was possible. I thought all
image files had to be rectangles. Seems there is always
something to add to the brain memory.

Thanks.
===========================
Well, of course the file would still be
a rectangle but the background would
be transparent. And...the subject can
be an irregular shape.

Yes, it's lots of fun...you can make a
cutout of a person (or any object for
that matter) and add it to a different
image.

The following links are two original
images and a third image which is a
composite of the first two. This was
accomplished using cutouts.

??? In "C" there's a man standing behind the
boy. The man is not in "A"...he was cut from
"B" and added to "C". The idea was to create
a family picture.

Try this one. Just for fun...I added both versions
of the boy to the same image.

You did a great job! Love the way you moved the man's
arm. Pic looks like it's from about 1942-44. Your family?
Looks kind of like my mom :) (I know it's not - it's the
hair and the dress)
===========
Hi Erika,

You are very observant...you are the
only person who mentioned the arm.
Even though it was just for fun...my
favorite was the twins.

And yes if you notice the border...
the originals are dated...May 1943.

The young boy in the picture is my
son-in-law's father.

Very cool photo! Long story but I only have a handful of

love old photos in general.

I'm with you on the old photos...I love them also.

Cheers,
