Force Downloading of File

Does anyone know a simple way by using HTML-based links to force download a
file? My hyperlinked WinZip files work this way. I would like my AutoCAD
files (dwg) to work this way instead of embedding it in my browser.

I would perfer when the hyperlink is clicked it prompts the IE6 "file
download" applet to download to my harddrive. I'm not sure how IE6 goes
about interpreting these file extensions. Is there some HTML code to disable
this when this page or hyperlink is being accessed to force it to go to the
IE "file download" popup?

I use FrontPage 2003 and my server is window based (microsoft web hosting).

If the file is a recognized mime type to the browser, it will open in browser
- put the file in a zip

Hi Kshu,

Most WPP offer a control panel that allows you to define the MIME types being used. If the DWG is defined then change it.

Maybe I am not making myself clear. I don't want this for me but for the
ease of the clients who use my website.

Yes I can change redefine my MINE types in my computer but I don't want to
assume my clients who visit my website and download files will do that. I
want to make it convienent for them with the least amount of effort.

So far the best result is to use Winzip files.

Mike was suggesting to set the mime type on the server, in which case it
will do exactly what you want for all users.

Forgive me - Okay I understand what Mike suggests makes sense.

I'm not sure I have access to change those settings on the Microsoft Web
Hosting service servers that I subscribe to.
