I can't look over your shoulder and see what you are doing so how about you
tell us:

which version of Outlook
what exactly you are looking at
what exactly you are doing

Then maybe someone will help you. :)

Just to be more specific... I am working in the window UNTITLED-CONTACT that
pops up from ADDRESS window when wanting to add anew entry.

you need to change to the Phone List view of the Contacts folder, then use
Autoformatting to selectively change the colour of some COntacts.

I hope this helps you at least a little bit!

thank you again for response. i am sorry but i am an absolute beginner, and
was not able to make any progress from your advice. Could you explain it
further for me? I'd be very grateful

You cannot change the colour of a single Contact. All you can do is change
the colour of some that meet a certain criteria. So you could make everyone
from the Company Microsoft, show in Blue. Here's how:

Turn on the Advanced Toolbar (leave it on too). View | Toolbars.

Change from the Address Card view to Phone List View. That's shown in a
window on the Advanced Toolbar.

Tools | Organize | find the Autoformatting button and experiment with the
formatting process.

I hope this helps you at least a little bit!
