Formatting errors w/Merge from Word to Pub 2002

Attempting to use word 2002 data in a Pub 2002 document.
All formatting correct in Word doc, formatting lost when
merged to Publisher. This is important as there are
Trademarks - TM, and other legal marks that have to be
there. Tried autocorrect and that won't work with merged
data. Any ideas needed ASAP. Thanks.
