Formatting

Hi, My problem is that I have a spreadsheet that is
showing the formula in a cell instead of the result. ie
when I type =b2+a2 that is what is shown instead of the
answer. I have checked the TOOLS-OPTIONS-Formulas check
box is not ticked and i think it is something to do with
the formatting of the cell. If I copy a cell from a blank
workbook that it works correctly but can't figure out why
the original cells are showing the formula! Anyone come
across this before?

Hi Michael

It sounds like the cell was formatted as text before you typed in the
formula. Format it as General and re-enter the formula.

This will happen if the cell is formatted as Text. Change the format to
General or another numeric format.

Seems like the cells are formatted as Text. Select the cells, reformat them (as General, maybe), then they will need re-entering, which is easily done by replacing "=" with "=".

Thanks very much. I tried formatting the cells but didn't
re-enter the data!!!

The problem most likely is caused by the fact that the cells are formatted as
Text.

Change formatting to General and re-enter your formulas.

If many formulas...........

Edit>Replace

What: =

With: =

Replace All.
