FP Drop down menu and pdf files

When i link an entry in a drop down menu to a URL that ends at a pdf file it first trys to download it rather then opening it then puts up the message that "file can't be forund on the server" I might add that the exact same URL works perfectly when placed outside the drop down menu anywhere on the page
