Free Spam Filter

Sitara Lal

Hi,

Could someone please recommend a free (or very low cost) spam filter which
would work with Outlook and would not leave an ad blurb (like
spamfighter.com does) in its wake?

Thanks

If you are using Outlook 2003, look into using the higher spam filter
options.

Having said that, I agree that SpamBayes is a good option.

Thanks very much for recommending Spambayes.

However, what I would prefer is a program that filters out the spam before
mail is downloaded into Outlook at all. A program which may perhaps download
the mail headers and then delete or separate the spam. The advantage for me
would be that I would not have to spend time (and money - unfortunately,
many ISPs charge by the volume of data downloaded) downloading junk.

Can you recommend any such program, again, preferably one that is totally or
substantially free?

Many thanks

There is a problem with this logic:
If you only download headers to your computer, then the spam filter only has
headers to work with to determine if the message is spam. That will make the
filter's success rate very low.
You basically need the entire message for determining for sure if this is
spam or not, so you either need to download the entire message to your
computer or you need to run your filter on the mail server, which most
likely won't be possible or free. Your ISP might offer a spam filtering
service though like mine does. Check it out.
