I am running OSX 10.4.8 on a G4 Quicksilver
Recently Entourage 2004 has begun freezing periodically and more recently
after I resort to Force Quit it reopens slowly and is slow to respond.
I rebuilt the database. Same behavior occurs.
Be sure to delete or archive the old databases to free up space.
Old files for Entourage 2004 are named:
Main [Backed up date and time will be shown] e.g. Main [Backed up 1-21-2007
13.35]
What can be done to diagnose and correct this behavior
Before you start testing:
1) First make sure you are updated. Many problems are solved by simply
updating. Make sure you are using the latest versions for the OS and
Microsoft Office.Even if you are updated, applying the Combo updater from
Apple overwrites potentially problem files.
2) Restart your Mac. This often fixes many problems.
3) Running Repair Permissions is another standard tool used to repair
problems.
4) If you shut down your computer overnight, you need to run the cron jobs
that Apple has set to run at 3AM. There are several applications to help
with this task. i.e. Macaroni, MacJanitor. Visit Version Tracker for
downloads.
Troubleshooting performance issues is difficult because it can involve so
many variables. Just a guess...you have an older computer. I would look at
your free hard disk space as a possible culprit. Memory requirements have
gone up since you purchased and low RAM could be another contributing
factor.
Problems from Insufficient RAM and Free Hard Disk Space
