FrontPage - creating a joint home page with links to 2 different p

A teacher and I are trying to combine our webpages created in FrontPage. We
both have different pages, the design layout tables, background,etc.

We were wondering if we could create a joint homepage/index page that we
could each link off of? Would our layouts change? My teaching partner seems
to think that as soon as we try to publish, that our layouts and pages will
default to the index/home page layout. Is this correct? How do you get
around it
