Getting MP3 files to play on Web Sites

B

B Greg

Have just put uo a web site, had .wav files that played fine, but pages took
way to long to load. Converted files to MP3 files. They will play on my
computer, but will not play on web site. I am using Publisher 2003 that has
all its up grades. Would anyone have a suggestion.

Thank You,

For info on Publisher Web Design...try the
following newsgroup:

"Publisher Web Design"

or...

Try midi files...they are very small, load instantly
and there are tons of them on the net.

As an example...here's a link to more than three
thousand player piano midis.

Midi Scans of Player Piano Music Rolls

(scroll down the page to find the zipped files)

Maybe the Web is trying to give you a hint - nobody likes background
music on web pages!

If you go to Tools > Web page options and look at the bottom of that dialog,
you will see the Background Sound. Click the browse button and look at the
"files of type". Publisher supports *.wav, *.mid, etc files, but does not
support MP3 files. Try one of the supported file types, or as Ed suggested,
consider not using a background sound at all. It will likely alienate more
viewers than it will attract...

And as John suggested, if you have more questions about Publisher webs, then
post in the web group and we will try to help you there:

Please always include the version of Publisher you are using, the URL of
your site and as much detail as possible.

Thank you David,

I will try your suggestion. Will have to convert the .wav or .mp3 files to
midi
When using Windows Media Player there was no selection in Rip Options for
midi.

I tried all the available formats.

The web site is www.nehealingrooms.org , converted thier old website for them.
It was very plain, now it looks more up to date and much warmer.

Thank you again for your response.

Thanks for your coment Ed,

I understand your view point.
The people who have the website would like the music there.
It is a little differant theme from your typical website.

Thanks John,

I will give this a try. Convert the .wav files to midi format.

David F, made the same suggestion, yours was first though.

Thank you again.

I don't know if midi files would serve
your needs but there are many you can
download and try...

If you have a favorite song you would
like to hear as a midi file...try searching
for it with the following search engine:

MIDI Explorer
http://www.musicrobot.com/

Here's an example of what you might find:

Irwin Scwartz's MIDI Website
http://www.doctorjazz.co.uk/page2.html
"right click / save target as"

I don't know about the quality question, but as they say, size matters.
Minimize the load time vs. maximize the quality in my opinion.
