Global Address List

I've (sadly) figured out that I cannot access the GAL from Exchange in
Entourage unless I'm connected to the network. Unlike Outlook
connected via RPC over HTTP, Entourage seems not to be able to see the
GAL.

Does anyone know if this feature is fixed in Entourage 2008?

Also, as long as I'm asking, are Notes now compatible in the new
version of Entourage?

Many thanks, all!

The GAL can be quered through LDAP in ENtourage 2004.

Well since 2008 is not public, people who have access to it really can't
comment... All big companies have pretty strict NDAs for their betas and
I haven't read any public comment about this,

The problem is that most companies using Exchange don't create a
public DNS entry for their Exchange LDAP directory, especially those
that are sensitive about security, as my company is. Outlook overcomes
this problem by tunneling LDAP over port 80. Entourage doesn't have
that functionality. To see the LDAP directory I have to log on to our
VPN to get behind the firewall. Outlook has the ability to download
the GAL so that it is available when a user is offline, i.e. on a
plane. This is another feature that either is missing from Entourage
or that I don't know how to execute.

As for new features in Office 2008, I don't see how that breaks an
NDA. There have already been innumerable articles and screen shots of
all of Office 2008, most with the blessing of MS. Detailing things
that are fixed in the upcoming release is more marketing than anything
else.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Ron!

You can do basic lookups while outside your company network. I have a
free script here
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangelookups.html> and Xutils
has created a donationware GUI version here
<http://www.xutils.com/owagalsearch/>.

Hope this helps!

PERFECT! Both solutions are excellent, but yours is a bit leaner and
faster to run. Thanks for solving a very annoying problem with
Entourage! Of course, next would be the ability to download the GAL
for access offline, but for tonight, I'm a very happy camper!

Thanks, Bill!
