going nuts password not saved

i use both outlook 2k and oe/6.0, (win2k) and am traveling and have had 2
different dialups and now a std lan ethernet, both will not save the
password for both pop and smtp. this has never happened b4. in the acct
setup i need to use the 'my server requires authentication' but not secure
password option, so i have my username and password in 2 places and of
course have checked save password. have used dialups and lans with both b4
and never had this happen?
can't figure what has changed.
