Graphic nightmare!

Jane Wright

Hi everyone,
I hope someone is able to help me. I followed these
instructions for inserting a graphic with a caption.

If you want text to wrap around your picture, and a
caption under (or above) the picture, the best thing to do
is to group them in a frame.
View > Toolbars and click Forms. Insert your picture.
Insert your caption. Select both and click the Insert
Frame button on the Forms toolbar. You can then position
the Frame wherever you want it.

However, when I tried this (Word 2003) one of 2 things
happens. Either I lose the caption or I get a really
peculiar size frame. Also I cannot seem to position the
frame exactly where I want it.

Please can someone give me some ideas as to what I'm doing
wrong?
Many thanks
Jane

Thanks Andre,
I have tried that but then the TOF doesn't recognise the
caption as a caption if it is in a text box. As I have
quite a lot of figures and charts which do need updating
it is important that I am able to update the TOC and TOF.
Any other ideas?
Jane

Option 1
The best thing I have in mind, is to insert a text box, resize it to the
desired size of the image you are planning to insert in the document.
Remember, insert the image in the text box, "not" outside
Resize the bottom of the text box to make enough space for the caption,
below the image and the type your caption in.

Option 2
Insert image into document, click it, the "Picture" Toolbar should appear.
Hover the "text wrapping" icon, click it, a menu should appear with some
listing. Select "Square". Create a text box, it should automatically be able
to float around the text in the document, just like an image, you can then
move it blow the image as a caption.

Hope this helps

Hi Jane,

Personally, I use different steps when I want a picture in a
frame. Frames can do really odd things if you select text and
then insert the frame (insist on using the width of the
document).

1. Insert your picture, in-line with the text.

2. Click the picture (once) so that it is selected.

3. Click the "Frame" button on the toolbar.

4. Make sure the picture is still selected, inside the frame.

5. Press Right-Arrow, then press ENTER. You should now have a
new paragraph below the picture, within the frame

6. Insert/Caption
