hanging/freezing of installing and opening

The following problems have occured:

1) Opening the msinfo32.exe program freezes my computer. I
get the dialog box, the 3.5" floppy starts and stops and
then the CD-ROM stops and starts and then everything stops.

2) Attempting to install anything from the "Update"
section of the Office website freezes in the same manner.
the 3.5" floppy starts etc.

3) Attempting to reinstall or "repair" the office the
same symptoms with the "partial" start up and then the
3.5" floppy starts... etc.

Any ideas?

Office/Windows versions?

You might want to try a Windows newsgroup first because your problems appear
to be Office-independent.
