heading styles in tables

Has anyone heard that heading/numbered styles can't be used in a table?
I've been asked to check into this tale, and after much time searching
support dbs, I've found nothing about this.

No, nothing behind that rumour (as you can see by trying).

A reason why you may not *want* to use heading styles in tables is that this
will mess with your ability to use Outline view productively (to move around
chapters, view only certain heading levels, and so on).
Apart from that, I can't think of any problems.
