Help Archiving 2006 Mail

I am having all kinds of problems dragging my Entourage 2004 to the
desktop and then dragging it to an archived mail folder.

I used the Database Utility to compress before starting. I was able to
drag the Inbox to the desktop but ENT crashed big time when I tried to
drag the Inbox from the desktop to the newly created Mail 2006 folder
inside of Entourage.

I am using MT-NewsWatcher to post this message as my Entourage will not
start. It says the database is hosed so I am having the Database Utility
do a rebuilt.

What started as something easy has tuned into a nightmare

Happiness is the Database Utility rebuilt. I have my mail back!!!!

I will try dragging the Inbox to the desktop again. Not sure I know
what to do with it once I get it there.

Really good way to start the new year with everything working perfect. I
may post the steps taken to back up the mail. My Archived User has mail
by year from 1999 to 2006. My current user (me) has 2006 mail in an
archived folder and I am starting 2007 with a clean Inbox and Sent Mail
box.

Options to backup your database:

Duplicate your Identity folder in the Finder. Put the duplicate in a folder
named "Archived Entourage insert date" Open Entourage and create a custom
view to find all mail older than xxx days. Usually you want some old mail.
Select messages in custom view and delete. Rename your Identity if desired.

For exchange users: AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 days from your Exchange account folders to
archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.
