Help Entourage 2004 will not quit

Jacques Paul

I have the same problem as Robin Jackson (19 nov. 2004) with Entourage
2004.

When I quit Entourage the main Window disappears but the progress
window
stays in focus, the menu's all dim and the name Entourage gets
highlighted.

And there it stays, hogging CPU and not doing anything.

I have no idea why this should have suddenly happened.

I DO NOT HAVE an exchange account. Only a regular POP account (cable
modem) and that problem was non existing before.

I tried to remove my "Données utilisateurs Microsoft" (I use the
French version - I am from Montréal) from user/documents Microsoft
user.

I tried to réinstall Office from scratch putting to trash the Office
folder and everything related in the user library/preference and
reinstalling - dragging the Office folder from the installer to
applications folder - tried before updating to Office 2004 11.1.0 and
after updating. Nothing work.

Entourage do not quit and is stopping a shutdown. I have to force quit
Entourage everytime before I can shutdown.

I don't care to reinstall and recreate my account as far as my main
identity (all my mail and address book) do not seem to be the problem.
I just want to identifie and remove the source of the problem.

Anybody have and idea of what is causing the problem.

Well mine SEEMS to have got better.

I have noticed that the freeze/hang happens significantly less often if I go
File, Quit rather than using the Apple, Quit keys.

Other than that I really have not pinned it down.

Sorry I cannot help.

I discover what was the source of the problem - even if I don't see
how that can happen - the last software I had install before the
problem start was SoundSource 1.0.4 by: Rogue Amoeba Software, a
utility that install a new icon in the menu bar to choose sound input
& output source. Usefull for IP telephony.

Deinstalling that utilitie settle the problem. The problem is back if
I reinstall it.

I am on a G5 running Mac OS 10.3.6 with french version of Office 2004

BE AWARE

Same setup (Entourage 2004 Fr., OS 10.3.6, SoundSource 1.0.4), same
town (Montréal), same result: Entourage will not quit. But... after
removing SoundSource, the problem persists.

I also use a CPU speed switcher (FastAndSlow,
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15774) that inhabit the menu bar
like SoundSource, so maybe there's something there also... I'll check.

Also log out and in, to see if that helps, after removing. If that still
doesn't help, reboot and try again. It may require rebooting.

Please let us know - it would be good to pin this down.

I am having the same problem, but it's intermittent. Sometimes Entourage
quits without a problem, but most of the time it just hangs and I have to do
a force quit. I have the progress window showing and the Exchange server
completes its chores but the application still hangs.

Any suggestions????

Craig
