HELP: How to stop Outlook 2003 from sending "ghost" messages

J

JJ Jones

We have Outlook 2003 configured so that it is not possible for this
specific account ("Sales") to send outgoing messages. It can only
receive incoming messages. Outgoing server is called "NONE" and
outgoing mail port is set to 1.

However, this "Sales" account is now trying repeatedly to send 24
messages. But there are no messages in the Outbox. So we have no idea
what 24 messages it is trying to send. It keeps going thru the same
cycle:

1. It says "Sending message 1 of 24"
2. After a while gives a timeout error message, because it can't
send.
3. Waits a minute or so and then goes back to step 1 and says
"sending message 1 of 24". And so on.

We've tried cancelling the message, rebooting, and even doing a virus
scan. But nothing helps. Our anti-virus vendor says that it's a
Microsoft problem.

Outlook is configured for Internet e-mail (no exchange server), and the
workstation is running under XP Pro.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is there a cleaner way to simply tell Outlook not to even try sending
outgoing messages on a particular account?

Possibly undelivered read receipts. See of this helps:
