HELP! Kernal panic hooped display font in Entourage

L

Leigh MacKay

My G5 had yet another kernal panic. It occurred, as usual, after the
Mac woke up. I was using Entourage at the time of the panic.

Problem:

The display font Lucida Grande has been affected in some way so that
the text is all mashed together to the left. All the letters in the
text are on top of each other.

The problem only shows up in the days of the week in all views in the
calendar, the "To:" line of new messages, the Preview pane in messages,
in the addressie of the address book.

There are more baffling occurances but needless to say, almost
everywhere that Entourage uses Lucida Grande, the text is smashed.

It cannot be fixed through preferences. Not all occurances of the font
are affected in Entourage. Lists and 99% of messages are okay.

If I log in as a different user, everything is fine using the exact
same Entourage application.

I've spent way more time on this than I should. I've done the following
without success:
trashed Entourage's pref files
reinstalled the font in the System folder
rebuilt the Entourage database
transferred the database to another user: no font problem
reinstalled Entourage
trashed the font caches

As you know, Lucida Grande is a root font in OS X. It's used everywhere
by system files and applications. Entourage is the only application
having the problem.

Your thoughts on this are gratefully received.

Leigh
