Help!! Major Entourage Mail Error

L

Lonnie

For no known reason, my Entourage OSX10 seems to have developed a
major database error.

Today I started Entourage up and upon opening it said, "This action
could not be completed. Mail Error." It does this every time I open
the program or click on a folder or a menu item. So Entourage is
totally non-operational and I can't get to any of my saved emails or
addresses or phone numbers. HELP!!!

Been using Entourage with OSX10.3.1 for a while. No problem. No
configuration changes or software additions in recent weeks.

I have a partitioned hard drive with OSX10 on both partitions.
Booting the computer from the other drive I tried copying just the
Entourage database into the User/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office
X Identities/Main Indentity folder on the other partition. The exact
problem followed.

How do I recover all the saved email and contact data? If I reinstall
Entourage, will it wipe all this essential information out? Can I
somehow export it all into a new copy of Entourage without the problem
following?

I've got a big Foster's beer waiting for anyone that knows what to do.
Please help!

Many Thanks!

I've got the exact same problem running 10.2.8 (just picked up 10.3
and preparing to install). How did you access crash data? I can't
access error log from window menu.

I'm able to access address data from within Entourage using custom
views. I'll stay in touch. Thomas N.

Try a database rebuild.

How to rebuild your database:

If you¹re in Entourage X, first go to
Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications. Quit Entourage, and then restart
Entourage holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up,
choose to do a Typical Rebuild.

Let me know if this works.

Tried Typical Rebuild: "Compacting failed and an I/O error occured."
Chose Advance Rebuild: "Database rebuilt. Move old database and old
database cache to trash."
Successfully retrieved mail. All other operation back to normal.
Many thanks for the quick reply to the post. I'm scrambling to get
some year end work completed. This made the difference. Thomas N.
