Help open Word doc from 1993

I have a floppy with chapters of a book written in 1993 by a friend who
travelled extensively to the former Soviet Union. I need to open it and
assemble it in one file.

Current Word does not open it correctly. I get quite a few lines of
scrambled lines. If someone can tell me how or open it, I'd really appreciate
it.

look under Tools/Options/Compatibility tab... and check the options..

Copy the files to the hard-drive(using Explorer), and then Open Word,
and then File, Open, and navigate to the files on the hard-drive and
open them one at a time and save as Word documents. Then Open the first
one and then Insert the following ones.
