HELP!!!! program is frozen, and wont un freeze

G

gary.ware

I was replying to an email, and as I sent it I closed the origional
message. This froze the program, and every time I restart the program
it freezes. If I remove the database file the program is fine, but I
loose all of my mail. I think what I need to do is get into that
database file, and remove the file that is in the outbox that was the
start of this problem. Is there a way to do that?

Please advise,
-Gary

Does rebuilding the database help at all? m.

If rebuilding the database doesn't work, try restarting or use "Activity
Monitor" in your Utilities folder: sometimes the program "Microsoft Database
Daemon" will freeze up - which makes it impossible for Entourage to run -
but if you use Activity Monitor to force quit the daemon, you should be able
to run Entourage.

Without the daemon running entourage cannot access the database. ALL
database transactions are routed thought the daemon.

When you start up entourage, hold down the shift key - that will prevent any
'startup' schedules from running - one of them may be causing the problem.
This may get you started and allow you to track down the problem area - is
it receiving mail? sending mail? Viewing particular folders etc?

That note contained two very interesting pieces of information that I
never knew before! m.

Indeed. Which is why when it freezes Entourage doesn't work. If you force
quit it, then start Entourage again, Entourage will automatically start up
the Entourage daemon so it's not a problem.
