HELP!!!

I am having an ongoing problem with Office 2003 - am also running XP SP2
fully patched.

Frequently (every couple of minutes) my computer (IBM T41) goes into what I
can only describe as 'stall' mode. I type for a few seconds - the cursor
appears frozen - sometimes it will move a character at a time once per second
or so, then, after five or six seconds (sometimes longer) everything I have
typed since the freeze dumps onto the screen. Usually it is in correct
order, but occasionally it jumbles the order of the character input.

Does anyone have any suggestions? This is quite frustrating.

And you've done a full scan for spyware and viruses? This is usually
indicative of something running in the background. Also, if you're running
NAV, disable and see if that cures the problem. If it does, then you will
need to either ditch it altogether (my choice) or disable the Office plugin.

Yup - have already done both many times - Running Symantec Corporate
AntiVirus - have turned it off - also run ad-aware 3x....problem persists.

VERY frustrating - anyone else with ideas?

Nope - tried that too - set autorecovery timer to 15 minutes - it happens
about every minute or two - also sometimes occurs when only IE and OE are open

Any other suggestions?

Is your system checking for new mail? Is the IE window loading new
Content in the "background", is your system running malware, spyware and
viruses?

SJW

Nope - happens when neither outlook nor OE are running - also ran every
spyware/virus scan/malware known to man....

Open Task Manager and watch to see what is spiking the processor every
minute or two.

Unfortunately - been there done that too...that's what makes this so
frustrating. I really appreciate your attempts - any other suggestions?

I am experiencing the same problem with Word 2003 at the site I a
supporting. The delay in typing can exceed 10 seconds in som
instances between when you hit the key and when the letter appears o
the screen. It only seems to affect certain users, but it affects a
least a third of them. The PCs are all recently imaged and configure
identically. It also only seems to affect certain documents as well.
There seems to be no rhyme or rythm to the files this affects. Som
are small (25KB) and some are very large (30+MB). Other small one
work great, as do other large ones. The files that are slow for on
user are fast for another user and vice-versa. At first, I though
this was a network issue, because copying the files to the local har
drive for editing and then writing them back to the network driv
usually fixed the problem, however I have started having users complai
of the problem on their local drives as well, albeit not as badly as wa
occuring on the network. We recently upgraded from Office 2000, and i
never occurred with 2000. We are running on both a Microsoft A
network, and a Novell Netware network. Most of the documents we us
have tables. We are also running the Rational Suite Enterprise o
these PCs. I have not been able to isolate any other common factors u
to this point
