Help with MS Pro and Server set up

Dave

Hi Folks,

Can anyone help me please as I am a novice compared to you
guys. I have just taken delivery of the Microsoft
Activation Pack that include Project 2003
Professional, Project Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 and
SQL Server 2000. If possible I desperately want to use
the extra reporting functionality that comes with the
Collaboration element of MSP 2003, but my problem is as
follows:

1. 2 people in the business - one with a laptop, one
with a desktop (both are connected via wireless LAN. No
server.
2. Both machines are running Windows XP (home)!
3. We have no IT department - its down to the 2 of us
to configure our technology!!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer advice
on how I configure the 2 PC's to fully use MSP 2003
professional. I realise it may be necessary to re-
install certain system elements and that we may need to
buy a separate server.

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

The advice I would give you is to look at the help file that goes with
Project Server Installation. When you run the install program, one of the
first options is the Installation Guide. This guide is very complete. Read
it first, you will have a very good input of how to configure your system.

If you want to install Project Server, you'll have to install Windows Server
on one of your two computers (or use a software like Virtual PC).

Hope this will help.

Are the two people project managers, and you have additional people in the
company who will server team members on projects? If so, how many people
will serve as team members on project work?

If your entire implementation is only for these two people, then Project
Server is bigtime overkill. You could simply install Microsoft Project on
each user's computer and set up a shared folder on one of their computers to
store the project files. This way each project manager could open the other
one's projects.

If you really have your heart set on installing Project Server, you will
need to purchase at least one server for the installation. Hope this helps.
