Help with .pst file

D

Daniel Arrepas

My outlook.pst file for Outlook 2000 is 600 meg. That's far too much after
exporting only 17 meg from OE6.

How do I, and what program should I use to, open the .pst file in Windows
Explorer so I can see what is going on and why the file is so big.

Thanks again for your help,
Dan

No other program but Outlook can open a PST file.
Did you compact it?

No, I did not. Forgive me for asking what is probably something obvious to
most here, but how do I open the file with Outlook so i can see the files in
the Windows Explorer?

I know I can access them thru the Outlook interface, but that doesn't tell
me why 17 meg exported from OE6 has turned into 600 meg in Outlook. I need
to see if there are redundant message files. That's the only thing I can
think of that would result in this bloated file size.

Thanks for your help

You can't, and the PST doesn't contain other files.

And that's the only way you'll be able to see inside the file.

On Outlook, right-click on the root of the folder file and choose
Properties. CLick Advanced, then Compact Now. Comact the file a few times,
then go examine the difference between the size Outlook reports and the size
Windows reports.
