help with unread msg designation

how do i set outlook2002 to keep a msg "unread" until i
open it? when the tab key passes over an email to get to
one below or above it it turns the msg from "unread"
to "read".

If 2K2 has the same options as Outlook 2000, go Tools, Options, Othe
Tab, Preview Pane. Clear the checkbox "Mark Item as read when selectio
changes."

You may also wish to check "Mark message as read in preview window" an
after (suggestion) 5 seconds.

Otherwise, turn off preview pane altogether (View, Preview Pane). Thi
can help prevent certain viruses from attacking, and prevent you fro
potentially encountering unwanted images

Tools->options->advanced->preview pane. Uncheck the option to mark messages
as read when the message changes.
