I am switching from xp to my first mac. i have been working on the computer
to try and figure out how to switch mail from outlook express for a total of
6 days. Everything I tried did not work and I did loose some of my old
emails after importing/exporting. Then I bought some software to make it a
breeze and after I downloaded transferred etc, it did not work for "outlook
express". I'm tired, so I will just send the emails the old way (too bad I
didn't do it sooner) Anyway, before I do that, I have been reading about
"users", If I create another account, can my husband have his own account
when he logs on? That way he can keep his own inbox, sent etc. Anyone's
help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you Jolly Roger. I just moved those emails and it worked perfectly.
You are the bomb!! Thanks alot for your help. I was pretty computer savvy
with my PC, so this is going to take some time. I did not know that my other
question was not Entourage related. Thanks again for your help...thinking
about naming my next child after you!!! (-;

Ouch! It's really not all that hard to do! Next time ask for help sooner!

According to this post, it should be as simple as dragging the messages
out of Outlook Express on the PC to the desktop, then transferring those
files to your Mac, then dragging the files into the Entourage folder
list!:

Have you tried that?

Yes - your husband can have his very oen Mac OS X user account, with his
own email, desktop, application settings, an so on.

I suggest you post this type of question in the comp.sys.mac.system news
group, where people will be better able to help you. This
microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage news group is for
Entourage-specific issues.

Jolly Rog, I think that posed my second email wrong. Can I have two separate
"email" accounts in Entourage that each person will have access to when they
log on. I think that is the Entourage question that I had wanted to ask.

Yep. I think you'll find a lot of things can be much simpler on the Mac
- sometimes so simple the idea might not occur to you at first, if you
are still thinking with the Windows mentality!

*grin* A baby named "Jolly Roger" would be pretty cute!...

Be sure to pay a visit to comp.sys.mac.system an comp.sys.mac.apps the
next time you need Mac advice (for instance when you create a new Mac OS
X user account).

Again, you answered my question and that is exactly what I wanted to know.
Will I have to delete his email account when I open the separate Mac OS X
user account?

Ah. Yes, you can have multiple email accounts in Entourage. This is
fine as long as you don't mind that you both will be able to read each
other's email and see everything else in your Mac OS X user account.
Otherwise, it's best to use separate Mac OS X user accounts.

If you would prefer a mailing list, check out the Mac-L and OSX list.

You¹ll find links for the Mac-L and OSX list on Suggested Links:

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:

Yes, as Jolly mentioned, but let me further explain. In Entourage you can
have multiple Identities. This would keep everything completely separate,
but you can also have multiple accounts in one Identity. You might want to
use Rules to sort into their own Inboxes.

Note: to switch Identities you would have to quit all open Office
applications first.

However, you should consider using Apple's separate User accounts. It's so
easy to switch back and forth using Fast User Switching. I think if you
tried it out you'll really like it.
