Hey! Aren't there any MS MVPs on here?

I got a new HP m385 (2.8 GHz, 7200 RPM disk, 512 or 2700 Memory) and if I
click on a 30K doc file in explorer it takes 18 - 25 seconds to load word
2003 and the file.

My ibm 600X laptop (500MHz, 5400PM dive, and 192 of god know what memory)
loads word 2002 and the same file in 4 seconds.

Duh.

If there's a MS guru here, please reply, as I am on the point of returning
the system even though I know it's software problem of some kind. A 200 page
PDF file loads into Adobe Acrobat 6 in 5 seconds or less)

Have a look at the thread here and follow the various suggestions (but
note that in this case the cause wasn't found):

BTW, your chances of finding MVPs in this newsgroup are fairly low
because it isn't hosted on msnews.microsoft.com any more. You'd have
better luck in microsoft.public.word.application.errors.
