Hide a custom menu item and sub items

I want to be able to remove or hide a custom menu item from a document so that it cannot be used / seen.
I have a document created from a template that, when the user has finished and wants to distribute, can run a macro from the template to disable the menu in the active document and hide components inherited from the template.

Define the toolbar as seen using a cust context of your global
template. Save and lock this down.
When it comes up, ensure normal.dot is set for cust context and save
the change.

Viola, bars are selectable, but not visible.
