Hiding Email Addressed from SPAM bots

D

Doug Walch

I'm a newbie to FrontPage (2002) and I would like to hide the "contact"
email address from SPAM bots on my FrontPage site. I've tried several ASCII
to UNICODE coverters, but when I jam the comversion into my page, I simply
see the "text" of the conversion(mai etc.) for example, rather
than what it should be converted to ([email protected]) as I would want the
viewer to see. I'm sure I'm missing some simple step, but am perplexed.
I'd think this would little excercise would be well documented, but I'll be
damned if I can find anything that's very helpful. At this point, I'm simply
planning to remove the email address until I get this figured out. Any
ideas? TIA

Doug, just enter the following: walch_do at REMOVETHISleg dot wa dot com
including all the spaces...Most everyone on the internet would know to take
out the REMOVETHIS and to replace the at with @ replace the dot with . and
to remove the spaces. It works great and your email address absolutely can
not be read by robots
Enjoy

#1 I highly doubt most people would know this, usually it is
the people whos email addys end up on the internet know
this.

#2 Seeings us smart humans can figure out, the bots are not
too far behind. Smart humans program the bots, and they
adapt the bot, just like a virus gets adapted

Best option is to use a server-side script reading a form
and sending the email.

It is a pity that the only robots that harvest email addresses are of
the non-compliant variety. Spammers do not comply with any rules.

there are sites like this one, http://w2.syronex.com/jmr/safemailto/, where
you can code the email addres. Javascript make the address readable, but bots
won't read it
