highlight text to type over it so previous text deletes

In the past when I'd highlight text to delete it, I would be
able to type right over it instead of hitting the delete button.
Within the last couple months, I think my kids must of changed
something in the formatting that no longer allows this feature.
I've already gone to Tools, Autocorrect, and saw that the checkmark
was still in place for "Replace text as you type." What else could
be wrong?

That option (Tools > AutoCorrect > Replace text as you type") is the
wrong one for this problem. Instead, go to Tools > Options, click the
Edit tab of the dialog, and check "Typing replaces selection".

Hi Joy,

On the Tools menu, click Options. Then on the Edit tab, make sure that the
"Typing replaces selection" check box is selected (contains a check mark).
