Horizontal scrolling in Project

Is there a way to control the horizontal (left/right) scrolling speed in MS
Project 2003 (build 11.0.2003.0816.15)?

If I click and attempt to drag a day or two off the visible plan, the mouse
rapidly accelerates to a rate of years per second!!

I'd like to either variable control over the scrolling speed when dragging
objects or to slow it down to a manageble pace. Any clues?

geogo13,
The only way I know to control the scroll rate is through the control
panel system setting however changing that for Project would most likely
be detrimental to other applications (i.e. painfully slow). Here are a
couple of suggestions that I have used.

If you only have a few bars you wish to drag, first give the Gantt
(graphic) part of the screen plenty of room to work. Then scroll the
timescale so the bar you wish to move is near the left side of the
graphic part of the screen. Then drag the bar to the right but do not go
so far that scrolling will be initiated. Stop dragging the bar
momentarily and again scroll the timescale to give more room. Then drag
the bar again. Repeat this process until the bar is how you want it. I
have used this same method to drag and drop a task (or tasks) from one
part of a file to another.

If you have several bars you want to change, I suggest you enter values
into the Duration field. If you are trying to give the bar a particular
length (i.e. duration) this is a better method anyway. If you are trying
to meet a particular Finish date, use a trial and error method to adjust
the Duration until you get the end date you want. Although this method
may seem crude, it really is quick and works amazingly well.

Hope this helps.
