Hotmail storage capcity is full

My hotmail storage capacity was almost full so I "copied"
the messages and sent them to my "local" folder. My
Hotmail storage capacity went down to "O" percent and my
messages were in my local folders. But after 1-2 wekks,
all my messages that were saved in my local folders
disappeared. Where did they go? Can I retrieve them?

How do I save messages without my Hotmail account getting
full. And BTW I don't want to buy more storage space.
