How are active Documents, backgrounds darkened?

GianRoss

Hi,

I'm a new user of Office and have Office Ultimate 2007 for students. I'm
wondering if Office Products, specifically Word, Excell, Outlook, allow to
darken backgrounds? Not backrounds of the application, for example in Word
the document I'm typing or in Outlook the reading pane, mail folders,
received mail area. I was able to use stationary in Outlook, but everything
else is white, which blurrs my vision worse than it is. I do remember Word
2003 I believe had an option to make default document colors a bluish color,
but I would like the choice of how dark. Is there anyway this can be
accomplished?

Thank you very much

Hi GianRoss,

The carryover from WordPerfect DOS (white text on blue background) was dropped after Word 2003.

To change the document working background, if your'e in Windows XP you can right click on the desktop and use
Appearance=>Advanced=>Window
to tone down the Windows main text area to an offwhite or a grey, but that change will affect most apps, not just the Office ones
and also changes other Windows elements that use the 'Window' background color.
Powerpoint 2007, although it will show a background default color to match the setting you make in 'Format Background', still shows
white on screen when you select the 'Automatic' fill (your Window color) default.

You may also find that in the
Desktop Properties=>Settings=>Advanced=>Monitor
that changing the Monitor screen refresh rate may help if you're sensitive (as some folks with migranes are) to certain refresh
rates of a certain Hz setting, while many of us aren't aware of those settings.
