How can I change the alphabetical index in Contacts in Outlook?

I have Outlook 2000. In Contacts the index has several letters bunched up in
the beginning of the alphabet, but has single letters toward the end, e.g.:
"A B" and "X", "Y" and "Z."
Can this be changed?
