I have moved to new premises and wish to "recycle" a significant quantity of
stationary by putting mailing labels over the old letterhead address (the
stationary is grey so I want the background colour of the mailing label to
match.)
Can any one advise as to how this can be acomplished using word as I don't
have much experience using access or exel to create address labels

In the Tools > Letters and Mailings> Envelopes and Labels dialog,
choose the label type from the Options, enter your name and address,
make sure "Full page of same label" is selected, and click the New
Document button.

You'll get a one-page document containing a table, with each cell
corresponding to one label. Click Format > Borders and Shading, and go
to the Shading tab. Select the grey background you want, make sure the
"Apply to" box says "Table", and click OK.

I am overwhelmed by the speed and effect of the response - thank you so much
( I hope I am in the position to provide help for others - some-day?)
