How can I make a photo slide show in powerpoint97?

I have received photo slides shows before which I thought were created with
Powerpoint. I have been trying to find out how to do it without inserting a
photo on to a regular slide or to see the slide in the background. Also, How
to insert a photo in a portrait layout instead of landscape. I have
powerpoint97.

Try Format/Background/Fill Effects/Picture.

To onsert a photo in a portrait layout, you'd first set your PPT file up in
portrait. Do that under File/Page Setup.

The photo slide shows are created using the Photo Album feature, built
inside PowerPoint 2002 and 2003.

PowerPoint 2000 users can download the free Photo Album ad-in, but that does
not work with PowerPoint 97.
