how can I replace a 'return' by an ';' in a Word document?

Guy,
What do you mean by return, is it text or is it a paragraph marker.
If the latter, go to Edit - replace click in the search for field, click on
more, click on special - at the top choose paragraph marker. Should give you
^p in the search box.
Click in replace with field, type ;. Hit replace or replace all accordingly.

1. Choose Edit | Replace.

2. "Find what": ^p

3. "Replace with": ;

4. Click Replace All.

Note that the final paragraph mark cannot be removed.
