You can use 'Character Map' to select an accented letter from your chosen
font, but note that not all fonts include all characters.. Times New Roman
and Arial are generally safe bets..

Character Map can be found under ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES..

As I mentioned in the recent thread on umlauts, you can get
almost all non-English Roman characters with the fairly mnemonic
CTRL + punctuation key. For example, CTRL + ', followed by e
gives e acute ( é ) and CTRL +`, followed by e gives e grave
( è ). Microsoft had not seen fit to make this available except
for Word in 2002. However, you can keep the character map
displayed while working in other programs to get the decimal
codes for the ALT +code method. I can never remember the damn
things myself from day to day :) but I prefer doing that to
inserting from CharacterMap. I did just that to write this note
with Outlook Express..
