How do I acquire a formatting toolbar in Microsoft Outlook 2003?

I would like to change the font color for certain new contacts and I cannot.
The button is grey.

Font colors are usually reserved for the Notes section in a Contact record.
If you click in the notes section is Font active?

Yes the font is active in the notes section of the contact form. So you are
telling me I cannot use a color font in the name field.

that's correct. Yo can apply conditional formattign in some Outlook views if
that is of any help.
