How do i activate my product when clicking 'activate product' doe.

Hey, i have MS Office 2003 Student & Teacher Edition for Windows. Recently
all my documents became read only & I could no longer perform any tasks
(typing &c), I have assumed this means that the product requires activation.
Having found out that this is done by clicking 'Help' and then 'Activate
Product', I did this. Only nothing happened. It says that the Product
Activation Wizard should open, this has not been the case for every one of
the 50 odd times I have clicked 'activate product'. Hmm, any ideas wot to do?
I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling, it says nothing about it on the
online help, I have no idea why it isn't doing what it should!
If it helps, I have Windows XP, I have tried 'activate product' on word,
excel, powerpoint, and outlook. All the same, nothing.
Your help is very much appreciated, cheers.

In addition to Mary Sauer's suggestion, another possibility is that you have
an expired trial version of Office 2003 STE. If Office 2003 STE came
preinstalled on your new computer by the computer manufacturer and you did
not pay an extra $250-$350 for it, then it is probably a free 60-day trial
version. Some trial versions can be converted online to perpetual licenses
in the Activation menu if you pay $349 to Microsoft. Other trial versions
cannot be converted to perpetual licenses in the Activation menu... if yours
is one of them, you'll have to purchase and install a full version of Office
(uninstall the trial version before you install the full version).
