How do I add a "Hilighter" effect over existing lines

I was wondering if there is a way to add an animation in Power Point, where
an existing line in a chart could be Hilighted (like you would do on actual
paper with say a yellow hilighter over a black line)?

If you choose the "rectangle" icon on the drawing toolbar, draw your
rectangle to the size needed, right-click it and select "Format Autoshape",
click the "Colors and lines" TAB, change the fill color to "Yellow" and the
line color to "None", change the "Transparency" slider to 50%, then animate
the object, you should have what you want.

If you are using PowerPoint 2003, here's another workaround that you can try
out:
Start the slide show.
Right click and select Pointer Options > Highlighter.
Highlight what you want and exit slide show.
When prompt to keep ink annotation, choose Keep.
You can then animate it.
Hope it helps.

Apology, the ink annotation can't be animated. You will need right click on
the ink annotation and select Cut. Then, click Edit > Paste Special. Select
PNG.
