how do I build a data base for a organization

My goal is to be able to keep a record of address, memberships, and meals for
a yearly charity banquet.
Any suggestions as to what would be the easiest and fastest platform to use.
I am a total noob at most of the office programs but I can pick it up fairly
fast

The Office database application is Access. You can also do some database
tasks in the spread sheet application Excel.

However, for what you describe, the simple database application included in
Microsoft Works may be all you need. Works or even Works Suite {with Word
and other applications} costs {especially when on promotion sale} less than
Office.
