How do I capture the main frame (not the whole screen) for pastin.

I want to document various settings from my PC by pasting screen shots into a
Word document. I do not want to paste the whole screen but rather the frame
of the screen with the pertinent information in it. I believe there is a
two-key process that captures the "open" frame within the desktop to the
clipboard.

Better to paste the capture into a graphics program, crop it there, save it
as a GIF, then import that into your Word document.

Or get a proper capture utility such as the excellent SnagIt.

Alt+PrintScreen will capture the active window or dialog. For anything else
you'll need to either edit the raw screen shot or get a dedicated screen
capture utility such as SnagIt from TechSmith (www.techsmith.com), which I
highly recommend.
