How do I change the width of text outlines?

ecca

I need to print out large individual letters (A4 size) to be coloured in by
kids for a sign. How can I adjust the width of the outline so it's a few mms
think? (i.e. like bubble writing)

I would normally do this in Corel Draw but I don't have it on this computer
and I;ve never used Publisher before.

Thanks in anticipation :)

Click on the text box (or other) and click on the line border style icon.
Choose the thickness that you desire. It ranges from 1/4 point to 6 points.

Chuck -

I'm trying to walk thru your steps but all that does for me is to put a
border on the text box and not change the width of the line that creates the
outlined letter. I don't think that's what the OP was looking for - but I
could be mistaken.

==============================
Try using WordArt instead of a
regular textbox.

Choose the plain style / upper left

Choose your letter and drag it to
the size you require.

Once you have the text...choose
"Format WordArt" on your WordArt
pallette.

Weight / Adjust to your preference

Welp, I sorta did what I think ecca wants:

In Pub create a textbox, then create the letter A with an outline font.
Then click on the textbox and Save As Picture, I chose a .wmf but it would
probably work with others as well.
Now insert the image into Pub and enlarge the image of the letter A to full
page.
Works.

Dunno how you'd do it without an outline font though...at least not in
publisher.

I woud suggest looking for a freebie font that suits the needs rather than
go thru all of this. Heaven knows there are about a gazillion free fonts out
there - and some are even safe to download. ;-)

Not sure what you really mean. If you want it to look like Sign Writing or a
possible 3D effect for the kids to be able to fill the outline in. Here
goes.
I don't alter the outline. What I would do is use Word Art. Top Left.
Enlarge individual letter to fit your A4 paper. Copy/Paste. Adjust the
alignment of the letter to suit your needs. Save.

it would have to be a very large font though...she/he said A4 size...that's
why i went through the 'speriment.

Ricky Cooper

Hi All,
I had this problem several years ago - and solved it with a special font
which I found on the Web. Unfortunately I have forgotten the Font name, and
also "lost" my old PC.
However - John Izer seems to be on the right track.
I have produced the letters I want, and used them as templates to cut out
the name of a Club I was representing at a National Exhibition.
John's explanation is not complete, but I got there anyway.
The only "fiddly" bit is dragging each letter out to the same height and
width, and deciding the "line weight".
Thanks John, your Email was very fortuitous,
Ricky Cooper. 2/June/2007
