how do I check level of ink in printer cartridge?

I'm using Word for Windows 2007. I want to be able to check level of ink in
printer cartridges so that I know in advance when I'm going to have to change
them.

That has nothing to do with Word. Read the documentation that came with your
printer.

Word has nothing to do with this. Some printers provide an ink cartridge
monitor, but it is part of the printer software and not Word.
