How do I COMPLETELY turn off MS Word spell-check?

I have unselected all the appropriate boxes in "Tools>spelling & grammer",
and all of the appropriate boxes in "Options", but the system still wants to
correct spelling. I am transcribing a 19th century diary, and want to
preserve the original writer's mis-spellings, but MS Word insists on making
corrections..... HELP!!!

Two ways:

1. Check the box for "Hide spelling errors in this document." This will keep
"Check spelling as you type" from marking "misspelled" words. You can still
run a spelling check manually. This is probably not what you want in this
instance.

2. Select all the text in the document (Ctrl+A), go to Tools | Language |
Set Language, and check the box for "Do not check spelling or grammar." This
formats the text as "(no proofing)". A better approach for this document
might be to modify Normal style to include this property. Since virtually
all the other styles are based on Normal, they will inherit this property,
so any new text you create will also inherit it.
