How Do I Convert An Entourage POP Account to IMAP?

Hello! I'm having difficulties with Entourage and would like your
help. Here is my situation:

1. I've invested hugely in my e-mail Account in Entourage. I've
configured dozens of mailboxes, sorted thousands of e-mails, downloaded
those e-mails from Yahoo! and deleted them from Yahoo! because they now
reside in Entourage, I've set up spam filters and filters for my
newsletters, etc.
2. I'd now like to upgrade my e-mail Account to IMAP, but can't figure
out how to change my existing POP Account settings to be IMAP.
3. I do not want to set up a brand new IMAP account in Entourage if it
would mean losing all my downloaded and sorted e-mail, folders,
filters, etc.
4. So, my question is, is there some way to change my current e-mail
Account settings in Entourage to be IMAP? And/or is there some way to
backup my mail, folders, filters, etc., then set up a new IMAP account,
and then import all those e-mails, folders, filters, etc. into my new
Entourage IMAP e-mail Account?

Any thoughts anyone has would be HUGELY appreciated. And/or does anyone
know of a subject matter expert in personal e-mail (and SPAM/Security)
systems - especially on Apple Computers?

Thank you!!!

Hi Jefferson,
2. I'd now like to upgrade my e-mail Account to IMAP, but can't figure
out how to change my existing POP Account settings to be IMAP.

As far as I know, that is not possible. You'll have to set up a new account.
3. I do not want to set up a brand new IMAP account in Entourage if it
would mean losing all my downloaded and sorted e-mail, folders,
filters, etc.

If your emails are stored locally on your computer (somewhere under the
Folders On My Computer folder in the folder list), you won't lose them when
you delete the account with which they were received. I assume that you mean
"rules" when you write "filters"; well, you'll need to rewrite these if you
switch to IMAP. As you can see from the way rules are organised in
Tools>Rules, IMAP rules are kept separate from POP rules, so POP rules don't
affect IMAP emails and vice-versa.

Your emails and folders are already stored locally on your computer, as
explained above, so there's no need to back them up specifically for that
purpose. (*Always* backup your Microsoft User Data folder inside your
Documents folder, as that's where Entourage stores everything.) There's no
need to re-import your data, except that you'll need to recreate your rules
for them to work with IMAP accounts. You might want to keep your old account
and use it alongside the new IMAP account, if that makes you feel better. If
you have any further questions, just post back.
