How do I delete contacts from my 2007 Outlook Address Book?

We upgraded to Office 2007 and switched from Novell to Microsoft Active
Directory. Now, I cannot delete contacts from the Outlook Address Book. It
doesn't matter if they were imported with the changeover or added later. I
get this error msg, "Some names cannot be deleted from the address book. The
action cannot be completed."
It is not just some names--I cannot delete any.

Never manipulate your contacts with the address book interface. To delete
contacts, open your COntacts folder and delete them.

Are you by any chance referring to the GAL (Global Address List)? You can't
delete entries via Outlook (any version - not specific to O'2007) from the
GAL - need to see your admin.
