How do I get all newsgroup messages?

Atro Tom

I'm using OE inside Outlook 2003 as newsreader. It is set up and stays put and works really well, but I'm having a little trouble driving it.

alt.astronomy shows this in the status bar: "261 message(s), 206 unread, 6881 not downloaded". I'd like to at least see the subject headings for the other messages. How? This must be pretty simple, but I'm just missing it.

Thanx.

In OE, Tools->Options->Read. Up the number to what you wish.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Atro Tom asked:

In addition to what Roady and Milly said, if you clear the checkbox for "Get
XXX headers" in Tools | Options | Read and then exit and restart OE, the
next time you click a newsgroup it will download ALL available headers. But
be careful with this -- it will start the download with the OLDEST messages
first, so with some of those popular groups, it will take quiet some time to
download everything, and if you stop the process you won't get the latest
(you'd have to click Get Next Headers again to restart the download). You
may want to start out with getting only XXX headers at a time, and when
you've gotten what you wanted, you can "Catch up" the group and then
possibly switch back to "get all headers" mode later on so you get all the
latest posts.
